We Welcome Dr. Talmadge Wilkins to Vero Beach Art of Dentistry
Dr. Johnson Hagood is thrilled to announce that he has officially partnered with Dr. Tal Wilkins, welcoming him to the Vero Beach Art of Dentistry team.
During their time together in the Pankey Scholar program of The Pankey Institute, Dr. Hagood was so impressed with Dr. Wilkins’s profound knowledge and expertise—particularly his advanced training in complex restorative cases, implants, and oral surgery—that he personally invited Dr. Wilkins to leave his successful practice in South Carolina and join him in Vero Beach. This partnership is a testament to Dr. Wilkins’s exceptional skill, allowing us to expand the scope of advanced care we offer to our valued patients to include in-office oral surgery and implant dentistry.
About Dr. Talmadge (Tal) Wilkins
Talmadge D. Wilkins IV, DMD, FAGD is a graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina School of Dentistry. Before studying dentistry, he received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from West Virginia University. At WVU, Dr. Wilkins was a member of its rifle team where he won four NCAA National Championships and earned six All-American honors. During this time, he was also a member of the US Shooting National Team. While he won many national honors, his highest accolade was winning a gold and silver medal for the United States in the 1994 World Championships in Milan, Italy.
His professional achievements are numerous, making him one of the highest credentialed dentists in the United States. After dental school, Dr. Wilkins completed a general practice residency followed by training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Medical College of Georgia, now Augusta University. For a time, he served as the Assistant Director of the Medical College of Georgia’s General Practice Residency, and he completed the Northwestern University, Kellogg School of Management Executive Management Program.
Dr. Wilkins is also an educator, teaching continuing education courses and giving lectures nationally. In 2015, Dr. Wilkins was chosen as one of the top 40 dentists nationally from Incisal Edge Magazine,”40 under 40”, where he was recognized as a leader in the dental field—advancing the field of Digital Dentistry, Digital Smile Design, 3D Printing,and Implant Dentistry. The dentists were nominated by dental industry experts and vetted by an independent panel, which represented the best of dentistry today, and the promise of even better dentistry for tomorrow.
Dr. Wilkins has achieved the status of a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry which entailed taking 500 hours of additional continuing education, five years of membership meeting the yearly continuing education requirements, and then passing a rigorous 8-hour exam. Dr. Wilkins achieved this award in only six years after graduating from dental school. He also has achieved a Fellowship in the International Congress of Oral Implantologist, Mastership in the American Dental Society of Anesthesiologyand was elected to the prestigious International College of Dentists.
In 2023, he achieved the status of Pankey Scholar. This status recognizes mastery in advanced clinical competency and the philosophical understanding of patient and staff behavioral relations, distinguishing Dr. Wilkins as an accomplished Pankey Institute-recognized dental leader and teacher. Since 2023, he has served on the Pankey Institute’s Visiting Faculty.
Like Dr. Hagood, he is passionate about functional excellence and artistry in his dentistry so his patients can live with optimum dental health and beautiful smiles throughout their lifetime. Like Dr. Hagood, he has earned American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry accreditation, an achievement that fewer than 500 dentists have earned worldwide.
In his free time, Dr. Wilkins enjoys golf, snow skiing, hunting, fishing, boating, and spending time with his two children, Witt and Loren Ann.
